How to choose the right tennis shoe

Tennisplayers’ feet are subject to an enormous range of shocks and pressure duringthe various stages of a match – rapid changes of direction, incessant poundingon the surface, start/stop, acceleration, sliding on clay surfaces. And this, whatever surface they play on: clay, grass, cement or synthetic surfaces.

A tennisshoe therefore needs to be firm, comfortable, dynamic, resistant and a goodshock absorber – all at the same time.

But which shoe for which surface?

How to choose the right tennis shoe

When serving, volleying, on the fore-hand or the back-hand, tennis players’ feet fulfil the following four essential functions:

- Balance
- Absorbing shocks
- Changing direction
- Acceleration

During long rallies, the player is in constant lateral movement, alternating jumps and pressure on the balls of the feet.  When he hits the ball, his foot locks suddenly but briefly using the full surface area of the sole of the foot.

Choosing the right tennis shoe.
The right tennis shoe is the shoe adapted to the level of the player. It will be different depending on whether you are a beginner, a regular player or ‘professional’.

The various surfaces on which one plays tennis – slow or fast courts
When choosing a pair of tennis shoes, it is essential to understand on what type of court one wishes to play:

-     Cement courts: The court is hard, the bounce is high and the balls arrive fast, and so the shocks need to be absorbed as much as possible to avoid injury. The ideal surface for the Artengo 633D shoe.

-     Clay courts: A slow, comfortable surface. Rallies are longer, lateral movement and pressure points are more frequent;  the shoe must cushion the shocks caused by movement, and must be perfectly stable.

-     Synthetic courts: Frequently, indoor courts: The ball comes on fast and therefore player movement is also fast. Good shock absorption is required and the foot must be held firmly.

-     Grass courts: The fastest surface where rallies are relatively short and the ball keeps low. The shoe must have an excellent adherence, hold the foot firmly, and give maximum traction for changes of speed and direction.

Artengo… high-tech, high performance tennis shoes

The engineers and ‘testers’ have really hit the jackpot in their excellent marriage of comfort and performance in producing this shoe.  They have chosen to use professional tennis players to evaluate the products. It is they who are best placed to know who have tested and analysed the innovations.

The Artengo range of tennis shoes is perfect for all types of player - the ‘professional’, regular player or beginner - and all surfaces. Thanks to exclusive technological advances, the Artengo tennis shoe helps with that essential confidence needed for playing any sport.

-     Traction: The extra support needed by the forefoot is assured by the “In’Up” concept.   It is an additional plus point for improving the player’s ability to transfer weight quickly. This concept is an integral part of the Artengo 633D shoe.

-     firmness and stability: the sole incorporates the “Arkstab” concept for the medial arch of the foot (a concept developed for the Artengo 633D shoe) and “Weblock” around the ankle for improving stability when transferring weight to move laterally.

-     cushioning the shocks: the “CS2” concept for the heel or “Diapad” for optimal and long-lasting shock absorption.

-     Resistance: The “Rublast” concept helps to increase the useful life of the sole.

-     Aeration and breathing capability: High levels of comfort in terms of ventilation of the shoe are obtained through the Air Cooling concept, which is completed by an anti-odour treatment.
